In just 2 weeks I will be setting up the booth I am sharing with Larissa McLean at the River City Arts Festival in Campbell River. In the Festival Gallery, located in the Campbell River Community Centre, there will be 31booths – ours is lucky number 13! The show opens on Friday, July 22 from 12:00 noon until 5:00 and continues over the weekend. Saturday hours are 10:00 til 5:00, and Sunday has a shorter day, starting at 10:00 and closing at 3:00. Saturday, July 23, is the biggest day of the festival, as it includes a street market in the downtown core. There will be an artistic market, street performers, musicians, interactive arts events, and food. Great family fun!
Larissa McLean is one of my fellow Alchemists. Her complex acrylics usually focus on flowers as the main subject but have so much more depth, filled with passion sparked by her personal journey through life. Her use of colour is evocative and compelling. I am looking forward to spending the weekend with her and her art.
I have been working on a few smaller pieces for this show, local forest scenes in oil and cold wax done with a palette knife. I’m having fun experimenting and discovering techniques to get the results I am striving for with this new process, playing with light and shadow in the deep woods.
If you are in the Campbell River area, come by and visit us and take in this fun and exciting show. We hope to see you there!
